Weigh In Wednesday: Debbie Downer edition

I’m trying to figure out how the above chart translates into a 1lb weight gain. I don’t get it. I’m really struggling today. I’ve been floating between 261-263 for 5 or 6 weeks. I’ve really been cranking up the workouts and last week I introduced biking into my routine to switch things up. I really don’t want to start journaling my food intake. I REALLY don’t. But maybe I have to.

Add that to my desire to run but inability to do so and you have a depressed Amy. I have found it difficult to manage the desire to run with the realization that if I try to push too hard, I’ll screw up all my training for the half in Napa. I have to keep telling myself that it’s ok to walk. Never in my life have I WANTED to run. So this desire to run is new for me. I am having issues dealing with it, because in my life when I want to do something and I put my mind to it, I DO it. I don’t wait around for things to happen.

I’ve also been yearning to adopt a dog. Most people my age have baby fever. I have baby doggie fever. I fell a li’l in love with a three-legged cutie at the humane society. I told myself that when he would be ready for adoption, if his adoption fee was less than $250, I would adopt him talk to my landlord and beg him to let me adopt him. I mean, look at that face. How could he say no to that face? I mean, really. Isn’t he the cutest? Well, Max went up for adoption today. His adoption fee is $450. I can’t justify spending that much to adopt a dog. I certainly wouldn’t have the extra funds to provide him the life he deserves. So you could say I’m upset. I almost started crying at work today when I heard the news (I’ve been in close contact with the humane society peeps since I found out about Max and his story).

Needless to say, I’ve had better days.

Ok, well I need to stop this pity party real quick.

Thanks for letting me vent.

Hair makes a world of difference

Yesterday I got my hair did. I haven’t had my hair cut since December. Yes, I’m a slacker. It’s been awhile since I dyed it too. I am happy to be a brightly colored red head once again.

It’s funny how getting a new haircut/color after losing some weight and inches makes you finally realize that your body is changing. My gal Dawn is fantastic. If you wanna get your hair done by the fabulous Miss D, let me know. I’ll get you the hookup!

Spread the word: Let’s Beat Crohn’s and Colitis

I need your help. As you know, I am training for a half marathon to raise money for the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of America. I’m not asking you for money (but if you’d like to donate, here’s the link: http://tinyurl.com/napa2010)… but rather for your help in spreading the word. I know my emails/tweets/facebook/dailymile messages are out of control, but I’m totally freaking out. I have to raise $3800 and if I’m not close by May 17 (re-commitment date) I may not be able to continue with the program. Currently, we have raised $1,811.13. I have 31 days to raise $1,988.87. That means I need to raise an average of $64.16 EACH DAY for the next 31 days.

What’s the big deal with Crohn’s and Colitis? They’re quite literally shitty diseases.

Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis are collectively known as inflammatory bowel diseases. Crohn’s disease is a chronic (ongoing) disorder that causes inflammation of the digestive or gastrointestinal (GI) tract. Although it can involve any area of the GI tract, it most commonly affects the small intestine and/or colon. Ulcerative colitis on the other hand, affects only the colon. The inflammation involves the entire rectum and extends up the colon in a continuous manner. There are no areas of normal intestine between the areas of diseased intestine. In contrast, such so-called “skip” areas may occur in Crohn’s disease. Ulcerative colitis affects only the innermost lining of the colon, whereas Crohn’s disease can affect the entire thickness of the bowel wall.

I have three family members with either one or both of these diseases. When I was 20 years old, I had a colonoscopy because my doctors thought I, too, had Ulcerative Colitis. There is a strong possibility I could be diagnosed with the disease in the next 15 years (most people are diagnosed in their 30s).

I already have IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome) and am scared of the possibility of developing this crappy disease. I hope that if I am every diagnosed, there is already a cure in place because I’ve seen first-hand how difficult it is to live with. And let’s be honest, I don’t want to have a raw ass for the rest of my life because of constant diarrhea.

Can you help me find 76 people to donate $2/mile ($26.20)? With your help, we CAN find a cure.

What am I asking of you? Please spread the word.

Half Marathon is just a 5k with a 10 mile warm up T-shirts for sale

It’s time for another crazy fundraising idea from your favorite blogger… I’m selling fabulous t-shirts to benefit the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation.

The shirt below (which will be blue with orange design), says, “A half marathon is just a 5k with a 10 mile warmup.” This design was inspired by some of our fabulous Team Challenge mentors, who sold shirts like this in years past. It’s also a fun saying in the running world. In case you were wondering, a half marathon is 13.1 miles. or, a 5k (3.1 miles) plus 10 miles. Please consider purchasing a shirt to benefit this AWESOME cause, and please wear them for your next 5k, workout session or just to support finding a cure for Crohn’s and Colitis!

PLEASE NOTE: You can pre-order til April 20 at 5 p.m. to save $1! (just place your order and I’ll issue a refund via Paypal). Shirts will be ready for pickup April 30. Any orders placed after April 20 will be the regular price of $15-18, depending on the size of the shirt.

Weigh In Wednesday: Wait, What?

So this morning I stepped on the scale, as I’ve done every Wednesday since January 6. I was nekkid, as I always am (for the most accurate reading, of course). I check my weight 3 times, as I always do, to make sure the number is accurate and repeatable.

This morning, first time the scale said 264.4. Second time the scale said 261.2. Third time, the scale said 262.6.

What. The. Heck.

I think my scale is broken.

I will have to buy a replacement scale this weekend. Any suggestions?
